Kurt Vile Releases New Album Philadelphia’s been good to me
May 29, 2026 — Aspen, CO — Kurt Vile today releases Philadelphia’s been good to me, his tenth studio album and latest full-length project for Verve Records.
Written and recorded over an extended period in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Memphis, and Athens, Georgia, the album reflects a renewed focus on the free-flowing songwriting, layered guitar arrangements, and exploratory recording techniques that have long defined Vile’s work. Across the record, he combines intimate home-recorded textures with expansive full-band performances, creating a collection that feels both relaxed and meticulously constructed.
Produced primarily by Vile, the album features contributions from longtime collaborators Adam Langellotti, Matthew Jugenheimer, Kyle Spence, Jesse Trbovrich, and Rob Schnapf. Much of the material developed gradually through informal recording sessions and evolving arrangements, with songs often taking shape through extended improvisation, live tracking, and repeated revisiting over time. The result is a record that balances spontaneity with a carefully developed sonic atmosphere.
Throughout Philadelphia’s been good to me, Vile returns repeatedly to themes of familiarity, creative identity, routine, and movement. Philadelphia remains central to the album’s emotional landscape, serving less as a literal subject and more as an enduring point of reference woven throughout the songwriting. The record reflects the perspective of an artist who has spent years on the road while remaining deeply connected to the environment where his music first took shape.
A defining element of the album’s sound is its guitar work, much of which was recorded using a vintage Gretsch Tennessean previously owned by Travis Good of The Sadies. The instrument’s distinct character appears throughout the record, contributing to its warm and open-ended tone while reflecting the longstanding musical connection between Vile and Good.
The album follows the release of the single “Chance to Bleed,” which arrived earlier this year alongside an official music video. Featuring guest contributions from Greg Cartwright, Natalie Hoffman, and Ethan Buckler, the track introduced the album’s collaborative spirit and its balance of loose rhythmic structures, melodic repetition, and layered instrumentation.
Since launching his solo career in the late 2000s, Vile has established himself as one of the most distinctive songwriters in contemporary independent music. Through albums including Smoke Ring for My Halo, Wakin on a Pretty Daze, b’lieve i’m goin down…, and Bottle It In, he has developed a body of work recognized for its conversational lyricism, fluid song structures, and expansive guitar-centered arrangements.
In support of the release, Vile will begin an international tour next month with performances scheduled throughout North America and Europe. The tour includes appearances in Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, Nashville, Brooklyn, London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Dublin, as well as a hometown headline performance at Philadelphia’s Dell Music Center as part of Connor Barwin’s Make The World Better concert series alongside Pavement.
Philadelphia’s been good to me is available now digitally and in physical formats via Verve Records.
